p;rsquo;ve been dreaming of a sweet, quirky old man to keep you company, then allow us to introduce you to Grampa Milton—lovingly known as Gramps. He’s a dapper older gentleman with a heart of gold, a charming head tilt, and just enough pep in his step to keep things interesting. Gramps is looking for a cozy home where he can live out his golden years soaking up the good life—think naps in sunbeams, strolls around the block (at a dignified pace, of course), and TV marathons with his favorite human. He’ll even throw in a few old man zoomies now and then just to keep you smiling. This wise boy is perfectly content curling up in his crate with a plush bed, but his favorite spot? At your feet while you work—he's the original remote coworker. Now, let’s talk about that adorable little head tilt. We don’t know exactly what caused it (Gramps says some mysteries are better left unsolved), but it could be related to geriatric vestibular disease or another neurological quirk. The good news? It doesn’t bother him one bit—it just adds to his endless charm. Picture the ultimate "interested in what you're saying" face. All the time. Recently, Gramps was diagnosed with early kidney failure. While we don’t know exactly how much time he has left, what we do know is that he deserves the very best life for every single day he has. He’s already started a special diet and is being closely monitored—and right now, he’s showing no signs of slowing down. We're hopeful he’ll be with us, and his future family, for quite a while yet. Gramps is heartworm positive too, but no worries there—his treatment is fully covered by the rescue. He just needs a loving place to recover and be treated like the royalty he knows he is. Because we don’t know much about his past, we think he’d do best in a home with older kids who understand that senior gentlemen value their nap time and prefer not to be startled mid-snooze. (Honestly, same.) Gramps loves other dogs and insists on greeting every person he meets—he’s truly offended if someone walks by without saying hello. Honestly, he’s a bit of a local celebrity. If you're looking for a loyal, heart-stealing best friend to keep you company, remind you when it’s snack time, and be your ultimate couch buddy—Gramps is your guy. We are looking for a special adopter to give him the life he deserves, or a special foster willing to shower him with love. Ready to add this classy senior to your life? We’ve reduced Gramps’ adoption fee to just $100 in hopes of finding him that perfect family to cherish him. Apply today at pipsrescue and come meet the man, the myth, the legend—Grampa Milton.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
