Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Oak Bluffs, MA, USA

Dog Breed: Terrier / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Meet Barack! Mr. President, to some. Barack is one of the squishiest, cuddliest, and handsomest puppies around. He's a curious a

nd clever guy with a hint of mischief. For example, you'll notice a picture of squishy puppy Barack in a small sink. Well, you see, Barack wanted to get a closer look at the mirror-puppy, because he looked so handsome. This resulted in two handsome puppies in a too-small sink. No worries, though--Barack (and his mirror-puppy twin) were assisted out of the sink, and neither seems worse for the wear. Like other puppies his age, Barack is working on potty-training (he uses the puppy pads in the house) but also goes outside; and he is learning about all of the sights and sounds that happen outside in the world while improving his leash-walking skills. He's a sensitive guy--sometimes during walks he climbs the stairs of an apartment complex to sit for a minute while he watches things happen around him. So far he likes other animals, especially birds and dogs, and people too--sometimes he thinks it's a little scary when people walk in groups, or come close to him while he is investigating something. Barack does well in his cozy crate. He naps hard (puppy snores). LOVES: playing inside and out; with toys or without; frozen blueberries but not thawed ones (it's a texture thing); and watching nature documentaries narrated by human Barack. [sigh] Barack is the American dream dog. I can't wait for you to meet him. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
