She’s been blossoming in her foster home, showing off her loving nature, gentle energy, and a growing eagerness to explore the world. Whether she’s watching birds from the window, “helping” in the garden, or trotting alongside you on a walk, Viola is happiest when she’s near her people and soaking up the sounds and scents around her. Viola enjoys twice-daily walks, prefers dirt paths to sidewalks, and is at her best when she has access to open spaces and plenty of nature. She’s learning cues like “sit,” “stay,” and “come,” and she’s starting to understand fun tricks like “boop” (a gentle nose tap to your hand!). She has a soft spot for Kongs, antlers, and stuffies, and loves relaxing near the window or checking in on the neighborhood birds. When she’s feeling extra playful, she enjoys romping with her foster dog sibling, Maverick. Viola’s Ideal Forever Home Viola would thrive in a calm, active home with plenty of companionship, routine, and opportunities for daily exercise. She’d love a person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures and can include her in their day-to-day life. Another friendly dog in the home would be a bonus! Her foster describes her as a “sweetheart with a gentle soul”—a dog who’s coming out of her shell more each day. She’s observant, thoughtful, and loves learning how to be part of a family. What Makes Viola Special Smart & Willing to Learn – Already picking up new training cues and enjoying confidence-building games Adventurer at Heart – Loves nature walks, dirt trails, and helping with outdoor tasks Loyal Companion – Builds deep bonds and is happiest near her people Toy Lover – Enjoys Kongs, antlers, and soft toys for chewing and comfort Dog-Friendly – Gets along with other pups and enjoys gentle playtime Calm Energy – A mellow house presence who loves to observe the world Why You’ll Love Viola Viola is a pup with so much heart. Every day she grows more confident, more affectionate, and more curious. She’s the kind of dog who will quietly watch over you from the next room, then surprise you with a burst of goofy joy when you least expect it. With patience and love, Viola will reward her forever family with trust, loyalty, and a lifetime of companionship. If you’re ready to welcome a thoughtful, sweet, and deeply loving GSP into your life, Viola is ready to meet you. Submit your adoption questionnaire today and give Viola the happy home she deserves! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
