Bearded Collie-Unknown Mix Dogs For Adoption in Kennesaw, GA, USA

Dog Breed: Terrier / Bearded Collie / Mixed. READY TO MEET MY ANGEL: Approx. 5 years old / Approx. 41 lbs. Hi, my name is Dylan! I was at animal control when Mostly Mutts came for me. I’m

very grateful, but I was also quite scared and shut down when I first arrived. With the help of the volunteers and trainers, I’ve blossomed into a super sweet guy who will make a great companion to my furever family. Could it be you? I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off-site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I came in with another scared dog named Austin and we do love each other a lot! I am more the leader, and Austin likes to follow. It’s not required that we’re adopted together, but if we can be, I’d be glad, and I know my friend would love that! If we’re not adopted together, I do need to have another very dog-friendly dog in my new home to continue learning from and to play with. / Cats unknown. / I recently met kids at Mostly Mutts, and I was nervous but interested in them, so think I would do best living with older, mature kids who are 15+ or perhaps younger (10+) kids who have calm natures. Let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I am a nice boy who came into the shelter very scared. I needed extra time to settle in at the shelter as well as plenty of love and patience from the shelter volunteers and trainers who continuously work with me to help me build confidence. They were excited to see my wonderful transformation that came with this good care. I just love people now and look forward to my daily interactions and playtime with the volunteers. I was also sweet during my photo session and good for my shelter baths. A dog savvy family that understands I will need time to adjust in my new home would be a great fit for me. No apartment/condo type home please as that would just be too much commotion for me. / My energy level is 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I have mastered the ‘sit’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘place’ and ‘leave it’ commands as well as how to utilize proper door etiquette and proper leash walking. I look forward to learning lots more great commands with my trainer. / Being in my crate at the shelter was stressful to me, so I’ve started a medication called Trazadone to help with this and it seems to be helping me. / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I enjoy playing in the pen with the volunteers and going for my daily walks. I especially loved rolling in the mud on a recent rainy day at the shelter — it was so much fun! I also love all the good lovings I get from the volunteers, like head scratches, belly rubs, and sweet baby talk. I will need my adoptive family to open their heart and give me time to adjust and relax in my home. Then, I will surely open my heart to you. / I don’t like to be rushed or forced into new situations too fast. Otherwise, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m on an anxiety medication called Fluoxetine and the above-mentioned Trazadone to help me with anxiety and it seems to be helping me! I recently started a new kibble, Hill's Prescription Diet w/d Multi-Benefit, to help firm up my # 2s. I can likely be weaned off of this once I’m settled into my new home, so please just ask about it. I am looking for a family dedicated to helping me trust and love in my new home! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
