e Granville County Animal shelter FB page and had to have me so here I am now living the good life. I was just another stray Beagle roaming around and someone nice took me to the shelter. I am estimated to be around 6-7 years old (do not let the white face fool you) as I have plenty of energy but surely love my snuggle/sleep time as well. My favorite thing in the world is food. My foster mom thinks I was probably part of a hunting pack and kenneled most of the time as when food comes out I devour it as if I will never eat again. She feeds me with a slow feeder bowl as that helps to slow me down. And you have to really be careful with a treat as I do not understand slow/easy yet when taking them. That said, when mom eats her dinner I am really good and just go lay down. i do not even beg for people food. Now, if you are cooking and drop something on the floor - no worries as I turn into your vacuum cleaner so you will not have to pick it up. I weigh about 29 pounds and am neutered and heartworm negative. I have had all my shots and recently had a dental and lost five teeth! My teeth were really bad and this is going to ensure I stay healthy for a long time. I currently live with 2 other girl Beagles and they are fine but I can live with or without other dogs in my new home. We interact but I really have not played with them nor have I been overly interested In them. I would love a fenced in backyard as my nose is quite active being a Beagle and all. However, that is not required as long as you walk me as I love to go on walks. My foster mom says I am the best Beagle walker she has ever had (or best of about any of her foster dogs so far no matter the breed) as I just walk along at whatever pace she is going and stop when she does and no pulling at all. I do wear a harness as she thinks that works better than just a leash on my collar. I am not a big fan of the crate. I seem to have a bit of anxiety in the crate when first put in so pant a bit hard and just not happy. However, I do get better after a while. The good news is that mom leaves me out and I do not chew up things nor have I had any accidents in the house. She has left me about 6 hours at a time without incident so far. I sleep in my own bed near my foster mom's bed at night and I must tell the truth - I do snore a little bit. But I do not move until she gets up in the morning so that is also good. I am looking for a family that just wants a great companion. I have not met a human or dog yet I did not like! If you would like to meet me please fill out an application and we can make that happen! Thanks for checking me out. (TB/KC*) Up to date on age appropriate vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. Adoption Fee: $200.00

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
