y/neuter deposit, see below for more information) Meet Eleanor (Ellie)! Your future adventure buddy & cuddle queen Straight from rural South Carolina and now thriving in New York, Eleanor—affectionately known as Ellie—is one of the delightful pups from the Ashlynn litter. With her gentle spirit and warm heart, Ellie is ready to find her forever home with a family who will adore her as much as she’ll adore them. A Sweet Soul with a Gentle Nature Ellie is the largest of her siblings, but don’t let her size fool you—this girl is all heart and softness. She’s very submissive, incredibly chill, and gets along beautifully with other dogs. In fact, Ellie immediately flops on her back when meeting new furry friends as if to say, “Hi! I’m friendly!” She’s respectful in play, calm in demeanor, and has already shown she’s got the makings of a social butterfly. Dog-Friendly & Pack-Ready Ellie has done wonderfully with the resident dogs in her foster home and even made friends with the neighbor’s bloodhound! She loves to explore the yard, play with her sister, and just as easily curl up in your lap when it’s time to wind down. While her sister tends to be higher energy, Ellie is the more mellow pup—she observes first, reacts second, and brings a peaceful presence to any doggy playgroup. Social Pup in Training Thanks to her wonderful foster family, Ellie is getting exposure to all sorts of everyday adventures. She’s been introduced to school buses, meeting new people, riding in the car, and experiencing new places as she tags along for school drop-offs and errands. She handles it all with impressive calm for such a young pup. Her foster says, Ellie and her sister are pretty calm for puppies their age, and climb right onto laps. Super sweet and ready for anything. What Ellie’s Looking For Ellie is searching for a home where she’ll get: Lots of love and snuggles A doggy sibling or regular playdates (bonus if they’re gentle!) A yard or regular adventures to explore Continued socialization and puppy training A cozy lap to curl up in after playtime She’ll thrive in a home that offers structure, guidance, and affection—helping her grow into the amazing adult dog she’s meant to be. Ready to Meet Ellie? If you're looking for a calm, cuddly, and sweet-natured puppy who's already making great strides in socialization and manners, Ellie might just be your perfect match. She’s ready to bring joy, love, and a little bit of goofiness into your life. Submit your application today and come meet this gentle-hearted girl—she can’t wait to love you! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
