SHARE WITH US, THE BETTER WE CAN DO OUR AT MAKING A GREAT MATCH FOR THE POOCHES AND FOR YOUR FAMILY. Pam is Wiggles' foster mom and has been in teaching mode since the pup arrived. The pup had been at a municipal shelter and was quite frightened. (No kidding!) In a brief time, Wiggles has learned to be housebroken and to interact beautifully with 2 rough Collies and a squirrelly little Sheltie person. She loves the car that will take her to her next adventure. And she loves humans. Border Collie experience may be helpful but patience and kindness are the most important traits. Borders are so very different from the rough Collies we are used to and place every day. Border Collies are ultra sensitive and must be treated gently. Pam will be helping to screen the applications for Little Wiggle Butt. What Pam says, goes! "My foster mom calls me Lady and sometimes Ladybug. I’m a sweet little puppy. I get along great with my foster family of 3 dogs and 4 cats. I don’t eat furniture, or electric cords or shoes. I’m housebroken so long as I don’t have to wait too long for you to let me out in the morning. Right now I go bedtime potty at 9:30 and morning potty at 5:30. I haven’t had any accidents inside with this schedule. I'm great walking on the leash and will be happy to go on many walks with you. I’m pretty good with the kitties, but if they run I’ll give chase. If they smack me I’m surprised, but I don’t get mad. I love to follow my foster mom around and sit on her feet when she stops moving! I’m usually quiet, but I do bark at the horses and the big bull moose in the backyard. He needs to be barked at because he’s always reaching over the fence to eat the apple trees and I need to tell that moose NO! I like meeting people. I get really excited and sometimes I tinkle or I jump up on them. I’m still working on my manners… I’d really like you to be my forever family. I want to spend the rest of my life creating loving memories with you. Please consider sharing your home and happiness with me." Please read over our requirements for adoption. We hate to disappoint people but, with us, it is doggies first! Securely fenced yard, great reference from your Veterinarian, interview with our Director and lots of love to give. Put it all together and it spells SUCCESS.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
