of fetch to show off my speed and ability but when it's time to settle, I'm like a soft little teddy bear and will snuggle right into you. Outside, I'm super curious, taking the time to sniff every new scent and eager to meet other furry friends, and foster mom is teaching me how to curb my enthusiasm and read my friends' signals. I love to pull foster mom along like we're in a Strongman competition but fortunately I'm pretty small and I'm quick to learn. I think I would have an absolute blast romping around with other dogs around my size, right now I miiiight be a little too much energy for the resident senior dog who can't quite match my energy I can't wait to meet my new forever family! Located in Stouffville About me Good with dogs - Working on it, curious about other dogs and sometimes barks out of excitement. No aggression/fear seen so far. Not good with respecting space. Will try to eat food/drink, get between other dogs and human, steal toy from mouth. Overall, friendly but jumpy so need training on manners to keep self safe. Good with cats - Working on it, leaves alone but occasionally gets excited to play and will go jump on cat. Good with children - Yes, loves children, wants to play, but jumpy so school age and up Good with elderly - Other than energy/jumping don't see issue Good on lead - No, pulls a LOT. Very curious and impatient! Good traveler - No, gets car sick. Drools heavily and will vomit on longer rides. House trained - Mostly. Consistently goes outside but still poos inside sometimes on hardwood and on carpet upstairs will pee... maybe sees carpet like grass? Doesn't seem to be issue of holding...we go out every 2-3hrs. No accidents in crate overnight though. Crate trained - Yes, will bark when sensing people around. Doesn't use during day. Barked heavily first night but no settles right in at night little to no barking. Occasional middle of night barks but usually sleeps to 530-730. Energy level - High, zoomed, jumps, etc but will also snuggle for hours or sleep on or near you if you're seated. Would be good to have yard or use long lead for park. VERY fast! Best Type of Household - Very sweet and friendly, just typical puppy behavior, absolutely no concerns. But really need someone who can immediately devote regular training and consistent 24/7 f/u at home. She had a certificate for puppy school at PetSmart and she does know commands like sit and paw but is often just so excited she forgets to listen. Definitely need someone who'll cuddle her, play fetch with her, interact lots with her but not frequently bring her places by car. So walkable neighborhood would be great too.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
