amp;rsquo;m Epic – a 4-week-old, wiggly red Doberman noodle with legs that are technically working (depending on which direction I fall today). I just discovered walking, eating this delightful mush humans call “gruel,” and expressing my opinions in squeaks and tiny barks that sound like a malfunctioning kazoo. Right now, I’m small. Adorably small. But I have big plans. And I’m looking for a human (or entire village) who’s ready to raise a future majestic queen. Why adopt a Doberman puppy like me? Oh, I don’t know… do you enjoy: Potty training? Great! I will absolutely teach YOU how to sprint across the house in your pajamas at 3am. (You're welcome.) Chewing? I have 28 razor-sharp baby teeth and a deep desire to taste-test everything in your house – furniture, socks, feelings. Obedience training? Ever wanted to bribe someone with snacks for eye contact? Welcome to the wonderful world of Doberman psychology. In return, I offer: Daily doses of zoomies so intense they could generate wind power. Ears that may or may not stand up like satellite dishes (we’ll see – genetics are mysterious). Snuggles so pure, your heart will explode into glitter. Lifelong loyalty, and a personal security guard who’s currently 6 lbs but thinks she’s a T. rex. Adopting me means: ✔ You love a challenge. ✔ You own shoes you’re willing to sacrifice. ✔ You believe napping together counts as a team-building activity. I’ll be ready for my forever home soon – once I’ve mastered this whole “walking like a land animal” thing and start learning my ABCs (Always Bite Chew-toys). So if you’re ready to laugh, cry, lose a few socks, and fall madly in love with the most dramatic, spicy, snuggly little Doberman tornado in training – Epic is your girl. Want to meet Epic? Submit an adoption application before she learns how to open cabinets. She’s going to be epic, trust us. FENCE required, application required, good pet care history required. we will check. To be considered you MUST read our policy and fill out an application. .uniteddobermanrescue All potential adopters must fill out the adoption application. Please read our adoption policies page in its entirety before filling out application-failure to do so may delay the adoption process. Please answer all questions on the application, failure to do so may result in your application being denied. We do not adopt on a first come first serve basis but what is the best fit for our dogs. We do give preference to homes with fenced yards. Puppies must live in homes with fenced yards. Those with no fencing must have a plan in place for daily activity and bathroom breaks for adult dogs. With the exception of Meet and Greets, y ou will not be able to meet our adoptable animals until the adoption application is submitted online and the home visit is completed. We will not place adult rescue dogs in homes with young children under 6 years old, with the exception of puppies 6 months and under, we will adopt to families with children under 6 years old, but a fenced yard is mandatory. Our dogs must live indoors with their humans and never left outdoors alone or in a kennel or yard unattended. You must be willing to use a crate and sign up for formal obedience classes. You must be 21 and own your home. We will not adopt outside of the USA. We will not ship our dogs. We will not adopt to anyone charged or convicted of animal abuse, child abuse, any type of felony. {s8319code4181/} We follow the Doberman Pinscher Club of America's Code of Ethics. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
