's got beauty in spades, both inside and out. Aside from being an absolute stunner, with her gorgeous hair, markings and heterochromia eyes, her personality is where she really stands out. She's always eager to make new friends, which sometimes leans toward over-eager, so she will need a firm hand when walking on a leash and some patience while learning the finer points of etiquette. Luckily, she's highly motivated by treats and affection, which will make her your new best friend in no time at all. Mya was surrendered to LAWS by her original family due to severe financial hardship and was no fault at all of her own. Since landing in a foster home, she settled down in just a few short days, made fast friends with the resident dog/cats and figured out the new routine in no time. While she needs just a little bit of training with manners, she's housebroken and has basic commands like sit, down & stay. She's good at learning, problem solving and adapting to change. She has a tall and lanky frame and may gain just a little more weight to reach a healthy, upper-medium to lower-large build. This unique sweetie is sure to capture a lot of attention, so don't hesitate, and get your adoption application in today! Mya is SO excited to meet you! At Laramie Animal Welfare Society, the first step to adoption is completing an adoption application on our website .laramieanimals. Once submitted, your application will be reviewed by our adoption team which typically takes 7+ days. Keep in mind, the animal you’re interested in when applying may be adopted and no longer available by the time your application is approved. We do not place animals on hold. Pending approval, your application is valid for 6 months. Also pending approval, you will receive contact information, so that you may inquire about the personalities of specific animals. Adoptions for individual animals will occur by private adoption appointment. Because we are 100% foster-based, appointments are scheduled pending staff, foster home, and vetting schedules. Should you want to proceed with the adoption, a brief appointment will occur at our adoption center to sign adoption paperwork, receive medical records, and pay the adoption fee. **Dog/Puppy applications - Because of the large volume of dog/puppy applications we are receiving these applications may take longer to process, please be patient. We do not do first come first serve but we place the dog/puppy in the best suited home. If you have questions about the Dog/Puppy process please email lawsdogprogramgmail**

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
