igy in black and rust, with the kind of cuteness that should be illegal in all 50 states. She’s got legs too big for her body, ears that don’t know what they’re doing yet, and a brain that’s already plotting how to unlock the treat jar from across the room. This isn’t just any puppy. This is a canine Einstein in the making. Sonnet is sharp, observant, and already trying to solve quantum physics while you’re struggling to find your coffee. She’s part snugglebug, part velociraptor, and all-in on being the overachiever of your household. Potty training? Oh, you’ll be doing it. A lot. Frequently. Possibly at 3 a.m. while saying things like “HOW can something so small pee THIS much?” But hey, at least Sonnet will be watching your form, grading you silently, and probably giving you a B+ for effort. Like her sister Rhyme, Sonnet is a Doberman Pinscher, AKA a working dog, AKA a fitness model with ADHD who requires a job, structure, enrichment, and maybe a small business to run on the side. If you’re looking for a couch potato… keep scrolling. This girl wants tasks, training, adventure, and 401(k) matching. Requirements to be Sonnet’s forever person: Fenced yard – Not “I’ll walk her when I get home” energy. Think secure perimeter to contain the future Olympic sprinter. Stable home – If your idea of “structure” is a half-inflated air mattress and a dream, we love that for you… but not for Sonnet. Commitment – This isn't a fling. You're signing up for a 10-15 year relationship with the smartest goofball you’ll ever meet. Willingness to crate train, attend obedience classes, and socialize at daycare, playdates, or puppy book club. Desire to engage in fun activities like: Puzzle toys (which she’ll solve in under 30 seconds) Agility courses (where you will trip, and she will fly) Hiking, running, biking, or literally any job you invent for her Learning ridiculous tricks just for TikTok glory Sonnet is here to make your life fuller, funnier, and possibly more complicated in the best way. She’s sweet, spicy, and smarter than your last three exes combined. If you're ready for a life of love, laughter, and licking (mostly your face), apply to adopt Sonnet today. Available end of June! United Doberman Rescue: We bring you dogs smarter than most of your coworkers. .uniteddobermanrescue All potential adopters must fill out the adoption application. Please read our adoption policies page in its entirety before filling out application-failure to do so may delay the adoption process. We will not place adult rescue dogs in homes with young children under 6 years old, with the exception of puppies 6 months and under, we will adopt to families with children under 6 years old, but a fenced yard is mandatory. Our dogs must live indoors with their humans and never left outdoors alone or in a kennel or yard unattended. You must be willing to use a crate and sign up for formal obedience classes. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
