name is Oakley, and I am 2 years old and I weigh 29 pounds of pure love. I have beautiful orange and white fur and I am quite the love bug. I’m spayed, housebroken, crate trained, and up-to-date on all my vaccines. I’m also on heartworm and flea/tick prevention like a good girl. I know some basic commands and love showing off how smart I am! I’m playful, snuggly, and oh-so-sweet. My favorite things include playing chase with my foster sister, Macie, playing with all types of dog toys, hanging out with the grandkids, and curling up in my foster dad’s recliner for the best naps ever. At night, I nestle right between my foster parents’ pillows, making sure I can touch both of them while I dream. That’s how much I love being close to my people. But—here’s the part where I need someone a little extra special: I have a condition called Canine Megaesophagus. Don’t let the big word scare you! It just means I need to eat my food (prepared specially with love), upright and patiently. My foster parents will walk you through my easy daily routine. I’ve become a total pro at it! With just a little extra attention during mealtimes, I live a happy, love-filled life. What I’m Looking For: A home full of love, patience, and snuggles. A family who’s willing to help me manage my simple mealtime needs. Maybe even a kid that would like to play with me and pet me. I promise, the love and joy I bring will be far more than you ever imagined. I’m Oakley Rose and I’m ready to bloom in the heart of my forever family. Could that be you? Medical Note: Oakley has her very own Bailey Chair, which will come with her. Her Foster Parents will discuss everything with you in detail. They will walk you through her feeding process and will be there for any questions you might have. Oakley is precious and is used to her eating routine that makes her stay healthy. The adoption fee for MO/Oakley Rose, who lives in Nixa, MO is $400, which helps to offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members. If you are interested in making MO/Oakley Rosepart of your family, please complete the online application by visiting .nbran . Contact the South Central Region Coordinators Melinde Waddle at macgammygmail and/or Chris Wagoner at cwnbrangmailand/or Nancy Walker at nwalkercapecod and then let your state coordinator know so we can get the ball rolling. A phone interview, home visit, and vet check will be required as part of the approval process by your state coordinator, before talking to the foster of Oakley Rose. Transportation can be arranged up to 1400 miles with the adopter being responsible for at least the last 100 miles.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
