You found it! MANNY NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Manny Best Guess for Breed: Lab and Terrier mix Best Guess for Age: 8 months as of June 2025 SEX: Male Estimated Weight (puppies' weights change quickly!): 37.8 pounds as of 6/1/25 Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with kids or cats but are happy to discuss integration techniques with any interested adopters, Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Manny is Looking For: Say hello to Manny, a bundle of joy with the silkiest black coat and the sweetest puppy eyes you've ever seen. This handsome boy is still growing into his paws and his personality — and he's already winning hearts left and right! Manny is curious, playful, and always ready for an adventure. Whether it's romping around the yard, going for a walk, or snuggling up for nap time, he's happiest when he's with his people. He's a quick learner and eager to please, making him a great candidate for training and bonding activities. Manny is looking for a forever family who will help him continue to grow into the amazing dog he’s meant to be. If you're ready to add a little more joy (and a lot more tail wags) to your life, Manny might just be your perfect match. What My Foster Says About Me: Manny loves to go for adventure walks, he is a fantastic road trip buddy. he loves to sit upfront and rest on the seat while you drive to his next fun adventure. He enjoys going for walks on the trails. He is confident and curious while being very respectful on the leash. He would sit any time I asked him to during our walk. He watches birds and animals go by but doesn't chase them. He LOVES to play in the water/streams and kept trying to go back for more. He was OBSESSED with his pup cup from the drive through. He waited patiently for his treat and licked the cup clean. Manny is comfortable in the elevator, friendly with people getting on and off and always sitting for people to say hi to him. He is a total rockstar and is going to make an amazing companion for someone!! I can't believe he hasn't been adopted, he is PRECIOUS!! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
