Mutt Dogs For Adoption in Pensacola, FL, USA

Dog Breed: Unknown breed (medium coat). Meet Eileen – The Three-Legged Wonder Pup! Looking for a dog who’s got 90% of the legs but 110% of the love? Allow us to introduce Eileen (yes, we

see the pun – and no, she doesn’t lean. Much). Eileen is a one-year-old, 30-pound mystery mix — part dog, part heart-melter. She was found outside an Alabama shelter with a pretty gnarly leg injury, so she had one of her hind legs removed. But don't worry — she didn’t read the memo that she’s “disabled.” She runs, plays, and chases squirrels like she's auditioning for the canine Olympics (Squirrel Sprint division). She is a little shy at first — picture that awkward kid at the school dance hugging the wall — but give her time, a little patience, and preferably another dog BFF, and she’ll be boogying into your heart in no time. Seriously, Eileen loves other dogs and does way better with a confident fur-sibling to show her the ropes (and the snacks). She’s house-trained, crate-trained, has never had an accident in her crate (model citizen!), and is an expert in the fine art of “recall.” That means when you call, she actually comes. We know, we were shocked too. Eileen isn’t into car rides — at all. If you're looking for a road trip buddy or a drive-thru french fry stealer, she’s probably not your girl. She’s more of a homebody who loves long walks, epic games of tug-of-war, and snuggles that last longer than your Netflix binge. She will 100% try to sleep in your bed. She has no shame and zero concept of personal space. She does well with older kids who understand her shy nature, but she's not a fan of cats or anything small and furry that runs — she has a high prey drive and would prefer not to share her home with potential “chase targets.” If you're looking for a slightly wobbly, hilariously lovable, incredibly loyal cuddle machine with a bit of a shy streak and a whole lot of heart — Eileen might just be your soulmate. Adopt Eileen. She's got three legs, one mission: to love you fiercely. Included in each adoption: age appropriate shots, microchip, and spay/neuter surgery. Prior to meeting or adopting any of our wonderful animals, we ask that you please fill out our online application: form.jotform/223268341300041 We are a 100% volunteer organization and have to work other jobs to pay the bills. Please give us up to 48 hours to respond. Submission of an adoption application does not obligate you to adopt nor does it guarantee approval. We look forward to hearing from you. We are located in Pensacola, Fl. Local applications considered first, but will consider out of state applications if transport can be arranged. Please note all animals in the home must be altered, up to date on vaccines, and be on heartworm prevention. We understand there are some special cases and will take those into consideration.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
