ter. If you know anything about my breed, we are from the south and have amazing family loyalty traits. We were bred for hunting and just like most hounds, have amazing noses. I'm just about to have my first birthday in a few days, and I’m so excited to share my next one with you! I am very treat and food oriented. I know how to use a doggy door. I am potty trained and I am crate trained. I have a good recall. I am very driven and take corrections well. I know how to sit. And I love going on Sniffaries(walks). Did I mention I love to hunt? I don’t just love the chase, I love to study other animals. That makes me great at pest control! Bugs? Cats? Moles? Chickens? You name it, I want to catch it and study it. When I am not working, I am a complete goofball. I am a very friendly girl. I love new people and new dogs. I make friends quickly and am very aware of boundaries when corrected. I would love to find a family with other pets for me to play with. I do have to warn you, I am extremely intelligent and learn quickly, so if you’re looking for a dog that never learns and never improves, and always under performs, I’m afraid I won’t be able to help you. Oh! Did I mention I love to travel? I do very well in a car and typically just sleep in my crate. And I know that there is somewhere new and exciting with a whole new bunch of smells for me to study, when we get there. But NONE of this is anywhere near as important to me as my people. I am naturally submissive and will lay next to you and let you rub my belly until I pass out. I am very aware when learning and very excited to work with my people. I really just want to be loved and I will do everything I can to get it. I see the calm confidence in the dogs I’ve met that have furever homes and I want that so much! I am ready to WOW my furever family and I know I would be a great addition to your family with all the love and loyalty I have to share. Would you be the right family for me? Let’s meet up and find out! Apply to be WOWED here! bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
