No puppy is totally perfect but Rhubarb might be pretty dang close! She is a sweet, goofy, and affectionate young pup who’s ready to find her forever family. She’s the kind of dog who makes you laugh with her silly zoomies one minute and then melts into your lap for cuddles the next. This beautiful girl has moderate energy—she enjoys playtime, walks, and roaming in the yard, but she’s just as happy to curl up for a nap by your side. Rhubarb is crate trained, learning her house manners, and already walks nicely on a leash with a harness. If I say “I gotta go”, she knows that means it’s time for her crate and runs right in. She’s eager to please, especially when treats are involved, and she’s picking up on training cues like “sit” and “shake.” With patience and consistency, she’ll continue to shine—she’s very smart and loves routine. Rhubarb is friendly with new people, including children (she especially adores kids and teens, though she’s still learning not to jump up for kisses!). She also gets along wonderfully with other dogs and currently lives happily with four canine friends. She could be an only dog but would truly thrive with a playful companion. She also lives with a cat and is very curious, so continued guidance there will help her succeed. While Rhubarb doesn’t bark much, she would do best in a home with a fenced yard where she can safely explore. She could adapt to apartment living with regular walks, but having outdoor space to stretch her legs is her preference. She’s crate trained and does fine when left for short periods, but since she’s used to having company most of the day, she’d be happiest in a home where someone is around often or where she has a dog buddy for company. Rhubarb is a total lovebug—she’s happiest when snuggled up close, giving hugs and kisses, or gently leaning on you for comfort. She’s sensitive to tone and thrives in a calm, loving environment. If you’re looking for a cuddly, fun, and loyal companion who will bring joy and laughter to your home, Rhubarb might just be your perfect match! ✨ Her strong points: Crate trained and good with routine Friendly with kids and dogs Silly and affectionate (zoomies + snuggles!) Smart and eager to please, working on commands Moderate energy—great balance of playful and cuddly EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Rhubarb is part of a 6 puppy litter that someone was giving away for free. Best Friend Pet Adoption admitted them to our rescue to make sure they have proper medical care and find loving homes. Could one of those homes be with Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants ideally should live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a Best Friend Pet Adoption veterinarian in the Cary area for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore prefer applicants live within an hours drive of Cary NC. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
