s is all her information they sent me about Zena: My daughter is a veterinarian in Florida. She served in the US Army as a Captain for 4 years and was on active duty deployed to Djibouti Africa. Upon her return she got a job for a practice in Florida that is non profit so she sees a lot of neglect. Due to lack of funds and often ignorance, she deals with some tough situations. Zena was brought to her clinic to be euthanized. The owners had bred her, did not treat her for fleas, which caused her to basically chew her skin and cause a necrotic infection. They did not want to pay to fix it, did not want her, so they just decided to put her to sleep. My daughter just could not put this nice dog down, so she had them relinquish the dog to the clinic. Zens was shipped up to us for treatment and to hopefully find her a home. Skin condition has cleared. She is healthy and happy. She has been spayed, has all her shots and no problems at all with skin conditions. The problem was not a condition. The problem was neglect. We have dogs already, so we want to find her a home. Temperament wise she is very good with people. (she does bark at people if they come to the house. I would say she is protective. She accepts people once she knows them) She has never snapped at anyone. She is Great for the vet. Never growls or shows any aggression She loves her people and wants to cuddle She lives in my house with 3 other dogs. She is fine with 2 of them. She is not fine with my corgi, but that is because my corgi is the problem. She has not had a lot of outside experience but has not been a problem when we take her places. She is always good in the car and loves to go places. Other dogs would need to be introduced first. She comes when called. She never has accidents in the house. She does Not chew things. She listens and sits when she gets her dinner. She is fed with my other 2 dogs and has not had any issues. I can take her food dish. So if you are interested in this dog they would really prefer a military veteran to adopt this dog. Which there is no fee for veterans. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Zena please text Casey at 570-441-0083. We adopt to the general public but we also adopt to military veterans with adoption fee waived in order to provide our heroes with companion or emotional support dogs . Our other adoptable pets our posted on our website as well as the very brief (5 minutes) application form. rescuepetsservingvets

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
