an mix is around 8 months old and still growing into his long legs and big heart. With a sleek coat and expressive eyes, Cannoli turns heads wherever he goes—but it's his sweet, easygoing nature that truly wins people over. Canelo is crate trained and house trained, though he may need a few gentle reminders as he settles into a new space. He’s got great leash manners (no pulling!), but he does tend to tangle himself up out of pure excitement—he’s still a puppy, after all! He thrives on exercise and playtime—especially if it includes romping in a park or chasing around a canine buddy. He’d love a home with another playful dog and would do great with an active person or family who can provide him with daily walks (or even runs!). While he’s got medium energy outside, indoors he’s a total cuddle bug who can nap and relax like a pro. Canelo is good with dogs, and while he hasn’t been fully tested with cats or kids, he tends to ignore cats and seems to have a calm demeanor that could adapt well. He can be crated during a typical workday and prefers his crate near his humans—he’ll whine a bit if he feels too far away, but it's just his way of saying he loves being close. His quirks? He’s a bit of a counter surfer and will pace in his crate if he hears activity, but he’s also very food-motivated, which makes training a breeze. He has a quiet bark and stays close when off-leash—proof of his gentle and loyal nature. Ideal Home: Canelo would thrive with a dog sibling to play with and a yard to explore, but he could do well in an apartment with enough exercise and stimulation. His ideal family is active, loving, and ready to enjoy the best of both worlds—playful adventures and cozy cuddles. Ready to meet your new best friend? Canelo is waiting! Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. His adoption fee is $200. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
