pplication so we can learn more about you and your household. We review each application in the order submitted and will contact you within 48 hours (please check your spam folder for our emails) . Meet Jae: Age: 2 years Breed: Chihuahua Mix Weight: 16 lbs Location: In a loving foster home, looking for his forever family About Jae: Jae is a sweet, goofy, and affectionate young pup who’s learning what it means to be part of a family. He was found as a stray, but he’s come a long way in foster care and is ready to continue his journey with someone patient and dog-savvy. Personality & Energy: Jae is playful, loyal, and eager to please. He loves playing fetch (especially with squeaky toys!), going on walks and hikes, and hanging out at dog-friendly spots like breweries. He’s happiest when he’s with his people and has done great with kids as young as four—gentle, playful, and respectful. He sleeps through the night and is quiet overall, rarely barking, even around other dogs. Dog-Friendly? Yes! Jae gets along well with dogs of all sizes—from 8 to 60 lbs. He’s social and loves to play, so a confident canine buddy would be a great match. Training Progress: House Training: Making good progress, with continued consistency needed Crate Training: Slowly learning that the crate is a safe, comfy place—treats help! Commands: Knows “sit,” “no,” “come,” and “off” (though he still needs reminders) Leash Walking: Still a work in progress, but improving Other Skills: Master of zoomies, fetch champion, and expert snuggler Ideal Home: Jae would thrive in a calm, structured home with someone who’s patient and committed to continuing his training. He’d love a dog sibling to help build his confidence and a family that enjoys active time outside, followed by cuddles on the couch. Kids? Great. Backyard? Bonus. Unconditional love? Guaranteed. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
