Five | 4-Year-Old Border Collie Mix | Gentle Soul Looking for His Safe Place Five is a quiet, tenderhearted boy whose presence is felt in the softest, most meaningful ways. At 4 years old and 45 pounds, this Border Collie mix hasn’t had much love or stability in his past, but he’s making up for it now in his foster home. With patience and kindness, he’s learning to trust, healing from old wounds, and showing glimpses of the sweet companion he’s meant to be. Once just a number in the shelter system, Five is slowly shedding that past and discovering the good life. He still moves cautiously in new situations and around new people, but each day he grows a little braver. He follows his foster family from room to room, not always seeking affection but clearly wanting connection. Other dogs help him feel more at ease, and he’s wonderfully respectful with cats—content to watch them with calm curiosity. Five is crate trained, nearly housebroken, and very food-motivated, which makes him a quick study with gentle guidance. While still building confidence on the leash, he loves having a fenced yard where he can safely explore and enjoy the outdoors. Chew toys keep him happily occupied, and he’s learning which ones are his to enjoy. The perfect home for Five will be calm and patient, with adults or older children who understand that trust takes time. Another gentle dog in the home would be ideal to help show him the ropes and give him confidence. What Five needs most is consistency, kindness, and the chance to feel secure. Beneath his initial shyness is a dog who longs to belong. With the right family, Five will blossom into a loyal, deeply devoted companion who proves that the quietest dogs often have the biggest hearts. Fenway is searching for a calm, peaceful forever home where he can continue to blossom with love and patience. He’ll thrive with someone who appreciates his mellow nature, his silly quirks, and the comfort of a loyal, snuggly companion. If you’re looking for a faithful buddy for Netflix marathons, long naps, and quiet company, Fenway may be the perfect match. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. If the pet looks like a great match, we'll schedule a meet and greet and ask you to fill out our online Adoption Agreement if you'd like to proceed with adopting. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
