lbs House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes – but she’s fine left alone outside of it Good with Dogs: Yes – enjoys their company but isn’t overly playful Good with Kids: Yes – loves all people, big and small Good with Cats: Not tested Energy Level: Low – perfect for a mellow household Fence Required: Not needed Special Needs: Chronic KCS (requires Tacromillus and eye lubricant for about $75 per month), cataracts bilaterally, hearing impaired and recovering from a skin yeast infection Why You’ll Love Trixie Olivia: Gentle and loving with everyone she meets Potty trained, quiet, and easygoing A+ snuggler who’s happiest right by your side Gets along with other dogs and adjusts well to new routines Ideal companion for someone who works from home or a senior looking for a loyal couch buddy Does great on leash and doesn’t need a fenced yard About Trixie Olivia’s Breed Mix: As a Terrier mix, Trixie Olivia carries the classic charm of the breed—loyal, curious, and devoted—wrapped in a calm and affectionate personality. Unlike the typical high-energy terrier, Trixie is mellow and content with simple pleasures like soft blankets, cuddles, and short, leisurely walks. Trixie Olivia’s Story & Personality: Trixie Olivia has been through a lot, but you’d never know it from the way she greets every person with warmth and love. She may start off a bit nervous in a new environment, but give her just a little time and she’ll be snuggled up next to you in no time, soaking up all the affection she can get. She’s housebroken, leash trained, and comfortable staying home alone if needed—though she’d much rather be by your side. Her foster family describes her as quiet, calm, and the perfect snuggle buddy. She doesn’t need a lot of exercise, but she enjoys slow strolls and lounging nearby while you work or relax. Trixie Olivia gets along well with other dogs but doesn’t initiate play—she simply enjoys their presence. She does have a few medical needs: she has cataracts in both eyes and is hearing impaired, but she adapts well. She’s also being treated for a yeast infection on her chest and belly, which is clearing up nicely. She’ll require daily eye drops for chronic dry eye, but she’s a cooperative little patient and takes everything in stride. Trixie Olivia’s Ideal Home: A calm, loving home where she can feel safe and relaxed A family, senior, or individual looking for a quiet companion Someone who doesn’t mind her simple medical care and can give her the gentle routine she thrives on A mellow household with or without other laid-back pets A warm couch and plenty of snuggles to share Ready to Make Trixie Olivia Yours? Trixie Olivia is fully vetted, housebroken, and has so much love to give. She’s a sweetheart looking for a calm forever home where she can truly shine as your devoted companion. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
