am so glad to be with them on the journey to my new family. My happy nature makes me a favorite around the shelter, and I sure do love the nice volunteers, too! There is a lucky family out there that I can’t wait to meet and with whom I can start a good life! I was adopted for a couple of weeks, but I had some challenges with the kitties in the home and some resource guarding with my dog friend, so I’m back looking for a great match! Perhaps you? • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I love playing with other dogs but have difficulty sharing my space/home with them due to guarding high value items (treats, food that’s dropped to the ground, etc.) so as much as I love playing with other dogs, it’s probably best that I’m your only dog. You can talk to the head trainer about this. / We all agree that I should not live with kitty cats as I don’t back down when they correct me. / I met a nice boy and a girl around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and I was a bit all over them in a happy & excited way - jumping and chasing when they ran, so kids 15+ may be a better match for me. Let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: There is no hiding my happy personality, as I walked to my spa bath with a pep in my step. I was so sweet and just lovingly rested my head on my bather’s chest for the shampoo scrub. My fun and playful nature is on full display when spending time with the volunteers, and they love my friendly and active demeanor. I’m also reported to be a pretty quiet dog with lots of love to share. / My energy level is 6-8 at the shelter, but it was a little lower in the home I was in for a couple of weeks – though I do like being active with my people. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program where I am learning lots of great commands with my trainer. I have mastered the ‘sit’ and ‘come’ commands so far, and the family I was with for a couple of weeks reported that I also know the ‘down’ and ‘here’ command. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts and were in the home I visited, though I did have some accidents in it when left for approx. 6 hours a day. / The family I was with for a couple of weeks reported that I had good potty manners except when left in the crate for approx. 6 hours during the day. • LIKES/DISLIKES: If there are toys or tennis balls around, I am always up for a fun play session. Think of all the fun things we can do to be active together. When I am not entertaining you with my playfulness, I love to cuddle and share affection with people. A volunteer recently took me to 'Movie Night' at Swift Cantrell Park, and I had the best time! I loved the car ride, the long walk, and getting some good exercise. Plus, I had so much fun meeting new people - making friends is kind of my thing! / I’m not a fan of swimming; I’ll only go in knee deep. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I am looking for a great home where I will be a cherished member of the family! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
