l-around sweetheart of a dog, then we might just be meant for each other. I’m an easygoing kind of guy who loves the simple things in life: a cozy spot to nap, a treat or two (okay, maybe three), a good belly rub, and being close to my humans. I was born around March 2024, and my foster mom found me roaming a busy street, yikes! After a trip to the vet, it turns out I am visually impaired—I’m so glad she saved me from that busy street! I may not see the world perfectly with my eyes, but it doesn’t hold me back one bit. I’ve already learned my way around my foster home, and I’m so well-behaved you’d never guess I’m still just a young pup. No accidents in the house, no troublemaking—just a whole lot of tail wags and cuddly companionship. I do fine in the crate but there’s no need for me to be in one because I have perfect house manners. I’m super smart and am learning to sit, and I listen when my humans talk to me—I’m very eager to please! I love to follow my foster mom around the house, not because I need constant attention, but because I just like being near the people I love. And if she’s busy, that’s okay—I’ll curl up nearby and keep her company while she works. Although I moonlight as a furry footwarmer, I also have a fun, playful side. I love playing with my dog sibling, he’s the best! I also adore being silly with my humans, including the two kiddos that live here, although shhhhhh, I love my foster mom the most! My signature move involves flopping down and “talking” to coax my dog sibling into playtime—or to gently remind my humans that my belly is feeling tragically unrubbed. I love car rides where I pretend I'm the captain of the road, especially when it involves a trip to the dog park, which is basically my version of Disneyland! I’ve never met a pup or person I didn’t like—big, small, short, tall—I’m everyone's best friend in about 2.3 seconds. While I’d love a doggy sibling in my forever home, I would also be totally fine soaking up all the love as your one-and-only. My foster mom says I’m practically perfect, and honestly? I just might be. I’m a laid-back, love-soaked, squishy-hearted soul looking for my forever person to snuggle, stroll, and snack with. Could it be you? 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
