Description

Boxer Dogs For Adoption in Austin, TX, USA

Dog Breed: Boxer. Hi! My name is Lanto! I am a handsome 3 year old boy who was found as a stray in Houston before coming to the rescue. I am residing in a foster home and learning the ropes of life! I

have high energy and would thrive with a family/person who can take me on daily runs or walks because I love them! Once I am tired, I will calm down and lounge around the house. I am house trained, crate trained, leash trained, do well on car rides, am affectionate, energetic, friendly, good-natured, and curious! I love to join people on the couch or on beds at night and don't like to be alone in a room, so consider me your 'velcro dog' shadow! I occasionally will help myself to things in the trash or on the counters but am not destructive. I do not dig, try to jump fences, or escape through doors. I love water in general whether it's getting hosed down, drinking it, or running through it, but I LOVE sprinklers and will spend forever playing in them! I am good with kids and have had exposure to kids ages 11 and 13 years and played with them and let them love on me! I am fine with the residen black lab, but sometimes I'm a bit much for her and have to let her rest. I had exposure to a small dog but thought it was a squeaky toy and tried to gently put my mouth around him, so I may not do well with small dogs or cats. My foster mom believes I would do best with an active owner who has time to devote to me, maybe even a good road trip and/or running partner so if you think that is you contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you! If you're interested in fostering a dog, please fill out the Foster Application austinboxerrescue/rehoming/adoption/foster/ If you're interested in adopting a dog, please fill out the Adoption Application austinboxerrescue/adoption-application/ Our volunteers will work with you to find the best dog for your home.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
