! LILLY ANN NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Lilly Ann Best Guess for Breed: Spaniel and poodle mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of June 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 32.4 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Check out these videos of Lilly Ann: youtube/shorts/f--wQTu5tqo, youtube/shorts/pS3O_Qbw55A, youtube/shorts/nnkc3q376-8, youtube/shorts/oufRoldcMvk, youtube/shorts/su8wEl0NYVE Special adoption considerations: This dog was rescued from a breeding operation that is shutting its doors. She has not been well socialized with new people and has lived her whole life with other dogs. New nosies, cars, bikes, and other things may create fear and anxiety. She will need a patient adopter who can give her time to come out of their shell and learn that the world is a wonderful and welcoming place. And because she is shy, she needs to go to a home with a confident, welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes. Heartworm Information: Lilly Ann is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Lilly Ann is Looking For: Her forever home, filled with snuggles and opportunities to see the world outside of a kennel. One where she is a cherished part of a family. She's very sweet, shy, and SO ready to be a Real Dog. Extra patient and loving humans who introduce her to new places and people at her pace and a welcoming resident dog who will show her how to dog are high on her wish list! Along with quality kibble, a cushy dog bed, and endless snuggles. And one more thing: That type of coat is high maintenance. It needs daily brushing and professional grooming. Mats hurt. You know what you get out of adopting a dog like that? An incredibly sweet and grateful dog who gives you all those adoring gazes, all the love and loyalty in her body, for all her days. What do you say? Is she the one for you? Are you her new chapter and forever home? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once this pup has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, heartworm treatment, and spay/neuter. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
