rador Retriever mixes are winning hearts everywhere they go. They know that good things come to those who wait, and they are patiently waiting for the happy ending to their journey in a loving home with loving family. Kai is a growing girl and is currently around 35 pounds. We think most of her growing is behind her, but she is sure to get a bigger in the coming months. It is estimated that she will remain a medium size dog of under 60 pounds when fully grown. Bringing down the house with her cheerful and adventurous nature, Kai is a gal who enjoys company and playmates equally. She is a friendly girl and can easily hang out with other dogs, children or both. She has not had the opportunity to be introduced to cats since coming into rescue. There is no limit to the love that our girl Kai offers. With a beaming personality, Kai will be a wonderful addition to family outings, walks in the neighborhood, snoozing on the bed or just hanging out. Kai will thrive in a family that will provide lots of playtime with fun and games. She will need continued training, regular exercise and of course lots of socialization. With a continuing effort and lots of hard work, Kai looks forward to mastering her house, crate and leash training. It is daily training but with commitment, she will put in her best effort and make her family proud of her. When in the family of her dreams, Kai will be able to lay down her head and find peace and tranquility. She has heard all the stories and now wishes for the reality of that dream. Give her a chance to convince you that she will be your next canine family member. * When considering adoption, keep in mind that dogs thrive on structure and routine. They adjust much better when their owners are committed to providing consistency and stability. The adoption fee for Kai is $500. That includes the cost of spaying/neutering, up to date vaccinations, foster care, rescue and transportation fees. To get the ball rolling, head over to our Adoption Application and submit your application today. A Dog Star representative will contact you within 24 hours. To speed up the process, contact your vet and give them permission to speak with us. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, check your spam folder.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
