(our best guess is chihuahua mix, maybe there's corgi maybe she's a pocket pittie?!) makes her an adorable mutt with her big ears, brown spots, and stout little body. Cari is the ultimate companion—gentle, easygoing, and a total cuddle bug. Her side blep, polka dot belly, and really soft fur are just some of her endearing features. Her favorite things? Playing fetch, chewing on her toys, and snuggling up close for some quality couch time. Playing with toys gives her so much joy and don’t let this low rider fool you because she’s fast to chase down her favorite toys! She LOVES chasing a flirt pole, and can play fetch with you for hours on end. She has a favorite reindeer toy and never forgets where it is. Cari gets along great with dogs of all sizes, loves to wrestle with her foster siblings including a nine month old shepherd mix, and has enjoyed strutting around the dog park checking everyone out. She really thrives in a home with other dogs that she can play with, but will also not mind being the center of your attention. When meeting people, she can be a little aloof, and politely approaches and once she is offered some treats or under the neck scritches you're quickly her new friend. She is house trained and knows how to use a doggy door in her foster home, and doesn’t mind being left alone for several hours when her foster mom is at work. She's very easy going on walks, follows your lead and whatever dog is in her company, and can strut with you on the town, but also appreciates being a homebody. Cari came to our rescue from Mexico, and appears to have had a rough past with some healed battle wounds though you'd never know by her gentle sweetness. As you can see in her video, she has a painless twitch from surviving distemper, and her iconic blep is from a previous jaw injury and potentially from a scar she's got on the top of her head, but these things don't slow her down and she is a happy healthy girl! Cari is house trained and also has had a recent dental! Cari is ready to bring joy, loyalty, and lots of tail wags into her forever home. Could that be with you? If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and affectionate pup to complete your family, Cari might just be your perfect match! Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $350. She is being fostered in Portland. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at underdogsrock/adopt-a-dog . Dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
