and hearts melt. He will never leave your side and will be your best friend, ‘fur’ever. You will need him in your life! I am a 5 month old male German Shepherd puppy. I am black with some cute tan boots, and a small tuft of white hair on my chest. My foster mommy rescued me and my siblings from the shelter. We were scared, but I learned to be brave and trust people. I weigh about 30 pounds, when I am full grown, I will weigh about 75 pounds I will be a big boy, full of love. I am currently working on my leash skills. I do love a good walk. I am working on my potty training, I am on a potty schedule and it is working for me, I am 85% there. I will go into my new condo (kennel) just perfectly. I love my condo, I eat and sleep in my new condo just fine! When my humans are at work I don’t have accidents in there. I am not shy, I am confident, I do not have a mean bone in my body. I have a free spirit and like to explore. I am loyal, I want to be with you at your side. I am a chill guy but can get vocal. I am extremely food motivated! I’m even ice motivated, I love a good piece of ice, when I hear the ice machine I RUN into the kitchen. On a hot day my mom buys a big bag and I just lay in the middle of it, I am in heaven with that cool treat. My mom says I am brave, I live with big brothers and sisters and I am not afraid of them at all. I am so brave I will chase the bees around the yard, when they come for me I run, I am a super-fast runner! After my morning and evening zoomies I will snuggle up on top of the couch wrapped around your neck. Although, I can sleep under your chair, under your feet, under the dresser, on top of my big brother, you know, anywhere. My favorite things to do are find pinecones. I LOVE Pinecones. I also enjoy sticks and digging a nice hole to lay in, after all, the dirt is cool. I love to chase the broom and vacuum. Sometimes I will steal a towel, my mom will chase me, it is fun to see her run. I would really love a home that would love me and care for me like I will care and love you. I need activities, I am smart, and I want to learn anything you can teach me. This little guy will grow up to be a BIG guy and training would be required if you are not aware of the breed. They are smart, vocal and loyal to their human. Oh, and they are shedders. If you would like to meet me, please fill out the application at: rescuerovers.rescuegroups/forms/form?formid=4087 7

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
