German Shepherd Dog Dogs For Adoption in Pasadena, CA, USA

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). A5703956 Meet Max , a stunning 5-year-old German Shepherd who’s the full package deal - brains, beauty, and bold personality. With his thick,

luxurious black and brown coat and perfectly alert ears, he’s a textbook example of the breed’s classic good looks. Much like his breed standard, Max is also incredibly athletic and intelligent. He thrives on daily activity and would love a job or purpose to keep his sharp mind and strong body engaged. He already knows basic commands like “sit” and is potty trained, but could use a bit more leash work and help with impulse control (he just gets very excited to say hi!). Max would do best with a strong, experienced handler who can guide him through unlearning some of his more overeager habits - like his enthusiastic jumping up - and keep a close eye on those escape artist tendencies. With lots of loyalty in his heart and endless love to give, Max is ready to be your next adventure buddy and deeply devoted best friend! -5 year old black and brown German Shepherd -55 pound neutered male -up to date on all shots and preventatives, so ready to go home with you today! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 6/2/25 as a stray -spectacular example of the breed's classic good looks, with a splendid brown and black shock of luxuriously thick fur and pert ears always perked at attention -in addition to having his breed's stunning beauty, Max also has the breed's smarts and sporty nature - he is incredibly athletic, so will need daily walks to exercise both his brain and his body - or even better, a job! -he will also need a strong and experienced handler to help him practice good behaviors and unlearn some more naughty habits, like his adorably overeager tendency to jump up and demand attention -while Max knows some basic commands, like sit, and is potty trained, he could use some additional leash work, given how he can pull a bit, and some work on mastering impulse control -finally, Max could also benefit from an extra watchful eye, as he could possibly be a little escape artist - he was *very* interested in the fence and the gate - is deeply loyal and has lots of love to give - would make a wonderful addition to many families! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
