big enough to moonlight as snowshoes and the self-awareness of a sleepy potato. I’m a Cane Corso/Mastiff mix, which means I’m destined to be over 100 pounds of drooly love and loyal laziness. Right now, I’m just a big ol’ puppy, doing my best to figure out life one nap at a time. My daily highlights include gnawing on bones like it’s my job, short bursts of wrestling with my brothers (before I need another nap), and following my foster parents around like a fuzzy, oversized shadow. I absolutely love people—probably more than I love treats. Maybe. Now, my foster mom says I have “giant paws” and am a “bit slow to learn commands.” Personally, I think she means I’m laid-back and just saving my energy for important things—like belly rubs and snack breaks. But she’s not wrong… I’m a Cane Corso/Mastiff after all. We’re known for being sweet, stubborn, and just a teensy bit dramatic. Please do your homework on Cane Corsos before you bring me home—I’m a whole lovable package that comes with some fine print! The good news? I’m doing great, potty trained if kept on a schedule, and actually like chilling in my kennel after a good romp in the yard. I live with cats (we're cool), love dogs, and would probably thrive in a home with older kids who can handle my accidental linebacker moments. I still have some classic puppy habits—chewing things I shouldn’t, needing help with leash manners, and practicing basic obedience (emphasis on practicing). And if you’ve noticed my eyes look a little silly, that’s just cherry eye—it’ll be fixed when I’m neutered. It doesn’t bother me, and I think it adds character. My mom says I have plenty of that. So if you’re looking for a mellow, affectionate, delightfully dopey pup who thinks love is a full-time job—look no further. I’m crate trained, potty trained (on a schedule), and ready to bring some XL snuggles to your home. Apply to meet me today! I promise to follow you everywhere… very slowly. Enzo is from a local impound. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. *Rescue puppies are notorious for losing their birth certificates before entering our rescue. We cannot guarantee the breed or size they will be full grown.* If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
