39;m a 4 year old, 62 pound lover girl that cherishes cuddles and affection. I have a very happy demeanor...you'll often catch me smiling at you. And I will always greet you at the door, tail wagging, when you come home. I love the outdoors, and would make a wonderful adventure companion. Going on walks is one of my favorite pastimes, and I have absolutely loved going on neighborhood jogs with my foster parents. I'm also super good on car rides, so take me with you on that hike you've been planning! While I'm full of excitement and energy on outdoor adventures (watch out, SQUIRREL!), I'm very relaxed indoors. I love to chill around the house and tend to be pretty quiet. I'm still a German Shepherd girl at heart though, so my instinct is to keep watch over the house. If there is unfamiliar activity outside, or an unfamiliar person visits, I may bark a little to alert my people. But I easily go back to relaxing afterwards. And I make friends easily with humans or other dogs. I have very much enjoyed the company of other dogs in my home and have also lived with a cat, so I'd be happy to live with other animal friends. Fun fact about me though: I can get a little overstimulated if I'm around a small creature in the home (say, the size of a chihuahua) and that little critter is wild or rambunctious. What can I say -- I just like friends with chill personalities! So if you're thinking I might be a good match, it would be best if any other animals in the home are medium to large in size, or have very relaxed personalities if very small in size. Well, that's all for now. I can't wait to find my forever home! Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $380. I'm being fostered in SE Portland. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at underdogsrock/adopt-a-dog . You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually or in person. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
