Australian Shepherd Dogs For Adoption in Burbank, CA, USA

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). From Snoopy's Foster Mom: Snoopy is a gorgeous young fella, with a ton of love to give! He is what we describe as `naturally caffeinated` at the young age

of 6-7 months old- he loves to romp and play with his foster sibs and enjoys a good zoomie session in the morning & evening. He's eager to make friends but a little shy, so going slow and letting him take his time to warm up is the best way to win him as one of your best friends. He is a little leash reactive to other dogs, but off leash made friends really fast with the other dogs in his foster home- especially the smallest one who is now his bestie. He's not overly food motivated, and won't take treats at all if he's anxious or overstimulated. He eats meals well and has responded to treats for training once he got comfortable. He LOVES toys and has made it a mission to take everything out of the toy box at least once a day, and rotate through chewing on them all. He's started to play fetch, bringing toys over he wants you to throw for him, tennis balls are a favorite. He loves to be with people too- following us around the house, making sure he always knows where we are. He taught himself how to use the dog door on day 6, and has adapted pretty well to being in the crate at night or when we leave the house- although he will fuss a bit for the first few minutes. Snoopy would love a family that either has other dogs (not a good fit for a cat home) or can set up some playdates with dog friends semi-regularly. He would love humans who like to walk and hike and are eager to bring him along as much as possible. He wants to share in your life as much as he can, including sitting on the couch with you at night and following you into the bathroom at a mostly respectful distance. He will need training and patience as he is still growing, learning and testing boundaries at his age. We're working on leash manners, but he's already got a solid Sit command- very smart boy! Snoopy mainly just wants to be loved and have fun with his humans and enjoy every day to its fullest in a safe and dedicated home and family. Snoopy is in a foster home and not housed at the shleter. Please contact our foster coordinator at vbasfosterinfogmail to arrange a meet and greet.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
