ning How to Be a Dog!
Charlie’s story is one of patience, courage, and the incredible transformation that love and time can bring.
When Charlie first arrived at his foster home in mid May, he was terrified of the world. For three whole days, he wouldn’t even leave his kennel except at night when the house was quiet. His fosters worried he might never feel safe enough to live like a “normal” dog. But Charlie had other plans.
Slowly but surely, Charlie started peeking out of his kennel when his foster siblings were around. Soon, he realized that being part of the pack was pretty great, and before long he was spending his days out and about with the other dogs — and even people too!
By early July, Charlie had grown so much that he went through his neuter surgery like a champ and quickly potty trained to pee pads (no more marking - yay!). He was curious about the outdoors but still too nervous to take that step. His fosters continued to cheer him on, giving him the time and space he needed.
And then, one day, Charlie blossomed. His personality came shining through — goofy, playful, and full of life. He discovered his love for toys, especially squeaky ones that he’ll sit and squeak just for the joy of hearing the sound. Big stuffed toys? He’ll proudly thrash them around like a little champion. And nothing makes him happier than playing with other dogs. Charlie is truly dog-obsessed in the best way, and even gets along well with cats, trying to play with them too.
Recently, Charlie went to a Vacation Foster while his regular fosters were away. At first, everyone worried the change might set him back. But Charlie surprised everyone — within a day he was out, playing, and even made the huge leap of venturing outside! From that moment on, there was no looking back. Now, Charlie can’t get enough of the outdoors! He loves running around, rolling in the grass, splashing in the kiddie pool, and playing in the water. He’s discovered just how fun life can be. And the best part - Charlie has officially potty trained to the outdoors!!
Charlie’s journey has been nothing short of amazing. From a scared little pup who hid away in fear to a playful, joyful companion who soaks up the sunshine, he’s shown that with time and patience, he can adapt and thrive.
He’s still learning — Charlie won’t immediately seek out pets or cuddles, but with patience, he’ll surprise you by inching closer and closer on the couch. With every step forward, he proves just how far he’s come and how bright his future is.
Charlie is ready for a forever home who will celebrate his progress, love him as he is, and continue to cheer him on as he discovers even more of life’s joys. While he may never be a cuddle bug, he is happiest being near the people he considers safe. Could you be the one to give him the happy ending he deserves?
