Meet Mustang | 6-Year-Old Blue Heeler Mix | 37 lbs of Loyal Cuddles Looking for a calm, snuggly sidekick who will love you with her whole heart? Meet Mustang, a 6-year-old Blue Heeler mix with soulful eyes and a heart full of devotion. Weighing in at a manageable 37 pounds, Mustang is the perfect companion for someone who wants a mellow, affectionate buddy to share the couch—and their life—with. Personality & Behavior Mustang is calm, gentle, and incredibly sweet. While she can be shy and timid at first, she warms up beautifully once she trusts you. Her favorite way to ask for love? Gently jumping up to rest her paws on your chest or lap and gazing right into your soul. She loves belly rubs, head snuggles, and quietly lounging by your side. She gets along well with other dogs and has had positive interactions with kids of all ages. She hasn’t met any cats yet, but her easygoing nature suggests she may do fine with a proper introduction. Daily Life with Mustang House-trained: Yes! Over 95% accident-free Leash walks: Lovely walker—some zig-zagging, but overall a joy to stroll with Crate-trained: Struggling—Mustang has separation anxiety and is currently working through it with support and structure Commands: Still learning! Knows “up,” and is getting the hang of “sit” and “stay” Toys: Not big on toys or fetch—she prefers affection, treats, and short bursts of play in the yard Mustang is more of a homebody than a high-energy pup. She enjoys a couple of short walks or yard play sessions each day, followed by long naps and snuggles. When excited, she does an adorable “cyclone” spin before taking off in a little zoomy burst! Mustang's Challenge: Separation Anxiety Mustang bonds deeply and prefers to be near her person. When left alone, she has shown signs of separation anxiety—including attempts to escape her crate or scratching at doors. She’ll do best in a home with someone who’s around most of the time and can help her build confidence and feel safe when alone. Mustang's Ideal Home Mustang would thrive in a quiet home with a patient adopter who understands her sensitive nature. Whether it’s a retired person looking for a low-key best friend, or someone who works from home and wants a constant companion, Mustang is ready to be your devoted shadow and snuggle buddy. If you’re looking for a mellow, loving dog who just wants to be by your side, Mustang might be your perfect match. Ready to meet her? Apply today and give this gentle girl the forever home she deserves. If you and the dog are a good match then we'll connect you with our dog's foster parents to chat more in-depth. If both you and the foster agree that the dog is a good fit then a meet and greet is scheduled. We require applicants' dogs to meet ours to ensure they get along. We'll ask you to read and sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee to complete the adoption when it comes time. Our adoption fees help cover the costs of saving more lives! A home visit will be scheduled within one week of your new pet going home with you. The adoption fee for this pet is $375. Our adoption fee covers the following: Spay/neuter Microchip DAPP vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Rabies vaccinations as age-appropriate for the dog. Adopters shall be responsible for all vaccinations after adoption. Please fill out an adoption application by clicking here . Please give us 48 hours to review your application and respond to you. (Remember to check your spam folder for our emails!) We want our pets to go to a lifelong new home, so thank you for your patience during the adoption process! Please email dogsarrcolorado for more information, as we can't accept calls. PLEASE NOTE: The breed listed is the information we've received from the shelter. Shelters usually guess at the breed, so there is no guarantee, as we don't DNA test our foster pets. Here is some interesting info on breed identification: arrcolorado/category/puppy-dog-tips/ Our adoption process is: 1. Fill out our Adoption Application online. We'll contact you within 48 hours to answer any questions you may have about the pet. 2. Once you've completed the Adoption Agreement and pay the pet's Adoption Fee, you can arrange to pick up your new furry family member!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
