mp; Soulful Sidekick When Milo arrived to us in early May from an overcrowded Texas shelter, he was barely recognizable — just a tangled mop of hair, scared and shut down. But oh, what a difference a little love can make. Just days into his new foster home, this sweet 3-year-old Maltipoo (Maltese/Poodle mix) began to bloom. Beneath the mats and fear was a gentle, sensitive boy with amber-brown eyes that reflect a soul full of love. Milo is a quiet companion with a big heart. He’ll happily trot by your side on walks, roll over for belly rubs, and curl up near you at night — close enough for a kiss and a snuggle, but always ending up at the foot of the bed (guardian of dreams, perhaps?). He greets everyone — human, dog, cat, or bird — with the same calm curiosity and soft kindness. He’s also a bit of a drama king in the cutest way. Diagnosed with heartworm before arriving to us, Milo has begun his treatment, which involves a series of injections over the course of several weeks. (Heartworm is a serious but treatable condition caused by parasitic worms spread through mosquito bites — the treatment prevents long-term damage to the heart and lungs.) After his first injection, Milo milked it for all it was worth, winning sympathy snuggles from vet staff and his foster dad alike. He knows how to work his charm. While Milo is still working on perfecting his potty training, we’re confident with patience and consistency (and maybe a few treats), he’ll have it down in no time. He’s an emotional little guy — he picks up on your mood and just wants reassurance that everything’s okay. No yelling needed — just a soft word and a loving hand. Because of his ongoing heartworm treatment, Milo is available only as a foster-to-adopt for now. This means you’ll get to welcome him into your home and heart while we finish his care — and once he’s cleared and healthy, he’s all yours to officially adopt. If you’ve got a soft spot for soulful dogs with a gentle spirit and a side of goofball, Mr. Milo Man might just be the one you’ve been waiting for. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. All companion animals adopted by The Rescue Crew are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, tested for FIV/FeLK (cats) or heartworm (dogs), microchipped, dewormed and provided with monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives prior to adoption. The Rescue Crew is a foster based rescue organization, meaning all of our adoptable pets are located in homes throughout Minnesota. We do not have a physical location where you can stop by to visit the animals - we require the completion of an Adoption Request Form prior to meeting any of our adoptable pets in foster care. For the most complete information regarding this animal, and all of our adoptable pets, please ensure you are visiting our website directly at .RescueCrew. You can also access the necessary online forms here as well.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
