ht home for MALI. Please visit aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-app/ to apply. Meet Mali, a gorgeous 3-year-old, 55 pound Belgian Malinois with a big heart, a brilliant mind, and boundless energy! This girl is the total package—goofy, loving, and incredibly smart. Mali is a bit standoffish upon first meeting but will warm up quickly and even likes to cuddle! Mali is a joyful companion who, although she has a low toy drive, loves to train and absolutely thrives when given a job to do. Whether it’s working on new commands, going for a run, or even practicing her antler hunting skills, she gives everything her all with an enthusiastic tail wag and a sparkle in her eye. Mali is fully housetrained, crate-trained, spayed, and up to date on all her vaccines. She knows an impressive list of commands including sit, down, stay, come, heel, leave it, off, place, get it, rollover, touch, and bring. She’s happiest when she’s working alongside her person and would be an ideal partner for someone looking for an energetic, intelligent dog who thrives in a structured and active lifestyle. ANY active breed will act out if their day isn’t structured with mental and physical stimulation, Mali included. Mali doesn’t have the drive to do formal “work”, but she does have a lot of energy that needs an outlet. While Mali is incredibly sweet and loving with her people, she’s best suited for a home where she can be the only dog or live with a calm, confident male of similar size and temperament. Mali can be confident and pushy so she would do best with slow, intentional introductions. A home without female dogs would be ideal. Due to her energy level, Mali would do best in a home with no children as well. She can be a little nervous in public or around fireworks, but she stays focused and grounded when guided by a confident human. Mali loves her crate for downtime and sleeps quietly through the night. She walks beautifully on a leash, rides like a champ in the car, and would make a stellar hiking or running partner for someone who wants an athletic dog with a whole lot of personality. This girl is not suited for apartment life or homes without structure—she craves purpose, play, and a person to call her own. Mali is an ON-LEASH dog only but does have a good recall. I say this because Mali will jump fences if there is temptation on the other side. I’m happy to discuss options to help modify the environment for her. She is a very athletic dog. Mali is looking for a forever family that leads an active life and will continue to provide the training, exercise, and love she so deserves. If you’re ready for a devoted companion who will make you laugh, keep you on your toes, and love you fiercely, Mali is your girl! Interested in adopting? Take the first step and complete an adoption application on our website: aarf-tn/adopt/adoption-apps/ If you have questions that are not covered in the profile, visit the Pet Inquiry Form: aarf-tn/contact/pet-inquiry-form/. THIS PET IS FOSTERED IN TENNESSEE! We do list and adopt our pets nationwide. Typical transport cost to the Northeast is $180. Due to interstate adoption regulations, we are not able to adopt to RI and MA state residents. A.A.R.F. (All About Rescue and Fixin' Inc.) aarf-tn/ is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) no kill animal rescue organization located in the Upper Cumberland area of Tennessee. A.A.R.F. is comprised of unpaid volunteers and survives only on public donations. Thank you for thinking adoption first! Prior to adoption, all canines and felines are spayed or neutered, have received their age appropriate vaccinations, have been de-wormed for common parasites, and have received treatment for prevention of fleas and ticks. All canines over the age of 6 months have been tested for heartworm. All canines are put on heartworm prevention as soon as possible - this means dogs as soon as they are tested negative. Puppies are put on prevention immediately. All felines, regardless of age, have been tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. Each animal receives a health check by a licensed veterinarian prior to adoption. Anything else found will be treated by our organization prior to adoption.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
