nity to her, a sweet, optimistic outlook on life, very open to people and other dogs, kids. Zelda loves everyone. Zelda has had some basic training and will sit on command (sometimes you have to say it more than once). Zelda we are finding is versatile in the house, she seems to "get" many expectations, she will settle down and rest if you work from home or are at your computer. She will occupy herself with toys or balls, bones or just chill out and sleep. Zelda is crate trained and easy to go in and doesn't bark when you leave. Zelda is silly and quirky too and can be easily stirred up to enthusiasm when expressing enthusiasm or excitement to her. She likes to play and have fun! (What Husky doesn't?) Her foster does take her to the dog park, which she loves very much! (It's good for her too). But she is the type of dog that will just go up to any dog and sometimes starts following another person's dog or pack of dogs and thinks that is the new thing to do! :) So a training collar helps get her back to you! We have found that Zelda would be Ok as an only dog as long as she can mingle with other dogs at times. She is really good with whoever cares for her, and creates that sense of "us" bond. She would also be good with another dog, she will often follow or mimic them. Zelda LOVES water! She play-fights with the water hose and would love to go swimming with her people. Zelda is a big fan of toys, bones, any other item that she can carry around and play with. Sometimes she plays tug of war with toys if another playful dog is around. Zelda loves to sleep in the bed with you and is an excellent sleeper - she curls up like a cat at your side, farther down the bed, and is a very cozy girl. Zelda is a charming, quirky girl, who is teenage like in her youthful confidence and optimism. She will be a very encouraging companion and/or also a great playmate for your existing dog and bring lots of joy and entertainment to your life! Zelda is currently fostered in Minneapolis. Zelda will need a home that understands the exercise and temperament needs of a Husky. Because this breed is higher maintenance, we do not suggest Zelda as a single dog or for a first time dog owner. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
