inquiring about me as that’s the name all my records are under). I was adopted at 1 year old and lived with my person my whole life until they recently had to move to get more help medically. No one in the family could take me, so Mostly Mutts welcomed me back. I find myself a bit nervous and confused about my new situation, but thankfully, I’m in a nice foster home as I wait for an angel who loves the old dogs to give me a great home for whatever time (long or short) that I have left to enjoy. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: In my foster home, I don’t show any interest in the dogs there, but I also don’t show any aggression. My former family reported that I liked the dogs I met while I was with them, but it may have been in my younger years. If you have a dog that would let me do my own thing and would not want to play with me, let’s meet! / I also don’t show any interest in the kitty in my foster home. When the kitty sniffs me, I back away. / I haven’t met kids in my foster home or former home, so if you have older gentle kids, let’s meet. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: When I returned to MM, I was very nervous, but the nice volunteers showed me love, patience and kindness and I slowly transitioned and enjoyed some cuddle time with them. The comfort of a soft blanket and a gentle touch behind my ears helped me relax. I am a bit of a nervous girl in general, so a nice quiet home where I can just relax would be best. My former family reported that I was gentle and sweet. I’m now adjusting to my foster home and am a bit timid, quiet, quirky, independent and also sweet. I don’t always come when called, and I only like touch for a short time, so I’m not a demanding girl. When I get excited, I can be a little jumpy and uncoordinated, likely due to being an older girl who isn’t as agile as I was in my younger years. I can appear to be confused at times, too, but recently I’ve been wagging my tail a bit more and spending more time with the family watching the other dogs play. / Energy level – 3-5, it may increase a little as I get more comfortable. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I seem to know the ‘sit’ command when food is involved, and my foster and former family reported that I was leash trained. I do enjoy some short walks in the neighborhood. / I like my crate and would like a comfy one in my new home please. It’s like a little retreat spot for me whenever I want to enjoy some alone time or feel nervous. Sometimes my foster notices a little shaking when I go there – could be due to being nervous or just something I’ve done for a while. / My potty manners are good in my foster home (also in my former home). I will go to the door and stand there to let you know I need to go outside, so keep an eye out for that signal. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like my crate, treats, soft blankets and soft touch at times. I also like to go for walks in the neighborhood. Now that I’ve had a very good dental cleaning and a little cyst removed, I may like to run a few zoomies in the backyard like I did on the day I arrived at my foster home. Time will tell. / I don’t enjoy a lot of touch, though I do lay my head on my foster’s lap when they are sitting on the couch. I go to my crate when one of the dogs tries to engage me in play – I guess I’m too mature for that silliness. I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love and good care. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. I needed a good dental cleaning and have had that now along with 6 teeth pulled, so my mouth is healthy again. I’m an older girl, with a little arthritis, so an over-the-counter Cosequin joint supplement is good for me each day. I’m looking for a quiet home with a family that will treasure me! My adoption fee is $100.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
