ting every day for our cherished shepherds. Please vote daily from each device until August 15th at votesacramento. Look for us in the Service Category under Animal Nonprofits. Thank you for being our heroes! Meet our delightful puppy, Brussels, who is eagerly awaiting his forever home! This handsome pup has an athletic, agile build and soulful eyes. With a calm and relaxed temperament, he's a wonderful companion. Brussels is currently fostered in a loving home that includes two pre-teens and a senior French Bulldog who helps set boundaries. He initially shared his home with his littermate, Herstal who is now in his forever home. The transition to being a solo puppy was seamless for Brussels. He has been well-socialized, enjoying car and stroller rides to kids' sports practices and games, interacting with many children and adults, and visiting coffee shops and other stores. Brussels is crate-trained and has graduated to sleeping all night from 9:30 pm to 7 am without breaks.. He's potty trained during the day with gentle reminders to potty after naps, playtime and after meals along with every time he comes out of his crate. Brussels is also learning to be proactive about bathroom breaks through a doggy door. Being food motivated makes him easy to train. He excels at sitting, has mastered down commands, and is currently working on a reliable stay for his age. He enjoys a game of "search and eat" with his kibble and can run or walk on a leash in a safe area. Brussels is also crate-trained to sleep in a living space outside the bedroom. His life is filled with snuggles and play with the kids, along with the structure he needs. He shares his love and attention with all family members, showing his loyal and gentle nature. As he approaches the teething phase, Brussels is good at keeping his mouth on his toys and treats to cope with the discomfort. This sweet boy has also learned the fun of playing fetch games, returning his ball for more tosses. Born to a lovely Malinois mother who has already been adopted, we suspect this litter is a mix of Malinois and German Shepherd. Born under the care of Foster & Paws, a rescue organization focused on dogs that end up in shelters while pregnant. Since they are not breed-specific, we have partnered with them to find the best adopters—those knowledgeable about Malinois and German Shepherd breeds—for these affectionate puppies. Brussels will thrive in a forever home that continues to provide environmental exposure, building on the excellent foundation he is receiving in his foster home. Ongoing training and structure are essential for shepherd puppies to grow into well-adjusted adult dogs. Have you checked out our YouTube channel? We would greatly appreciate your support by subscribing, liking, and commenting on the videos we share of our adoptable shepherds in action. You can also follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and our newest Threads account, where we post plenty of news and updates about our shepherds. As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. There are many shepherds in our local shelters who require our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to open your home and share part of your life to help these dogs find new families? You provide the love, and we will provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Complete this .shepheroes/foster-form, and we will be in touch as soon as possible. We appreciate your consideration.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
