gh NC area and interested adopters must be willing to drive to him, when needed for Meet & Greets. Bowser is a neutered 2 year-old Australian cattle dog and he is very fitting to his Breed characteristics. After spending his early life in a single backyard, he's now experiencing the world one sniff, hike, and frisbee toss at a time. He has a very appealing athletic lean body figure and he would be well matched with an active family. Water? Count him in! Want to play ball or frisbee? He's game! Here are some great things about him! - Good in a home with 7 dog savvy cats, IF he chased, he recalls off when told. - People friendly in a familiar environment - LOVES WATER. - Walks great on a leash - Kennel trained - Not super barky - Handler focused, responds well - Survived fireworks in the neighboring field to the house, with no super anxious freak out - He is very, very food motivated - He is toy driven (Balls and Frisbees) Heres some unique things about him! * He’s got some real monkey energy—a bit jumpy and mouthy when he gets excited during play! * Still learning about the big wide world, he may bark at strangers or new situations, but it’s just his way of saying, “Hey, what’s that?” With more exposure, his confidence is growing every day. * Mild resource guarding around high-value treats, so awareness and boundaries will go a long way. * He can be dog selective - He has done well with a 9y/o Neutered male and a 3 y/o Neutered male, but not with a 3y/o Intact male. It may be as simple as an Intact male issue, so Neutered males and females only and Meet & Greets required! Bowser’s Ideal Home: No young kiddos—children 10+ only, please! Preferably an only dog, or a home open to slow intros with a chill female or neutered male. Dog-savvy humans who are committed to continued training and socialization People who love the outdoors—he thrives with activity and would love to join you on trails, adventures, and training games. Bowser is incredibly handler-focused, and he’s already showing how eager he is to learn, grow, and bond. If you're looking for a loyal, sporty, slightly silly sidekick who’s just waiting for his chance to shine, Bowser may be your perfect match. If Bowser’s cute mug has caught your heart and you're ready for a rewarding journey with this diamond in the rough—reach out today. He can’t wait to meet you! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
