ttled in nicely. Bruno loves people. He loves to be near you, on you, next to you, being held by you and generally soak up all your love and attention. He is a happy little guy and he loves going for walks. When you are at home, he will curl up on the couch with you. Bruno has only two challenges: He does not do well with other dogs, especially males. He lived with a female dog before but that did not seem to be a healthy dynamic. He walks well on a leash and as long as other dogs leave him alone and don't get in his face, he is just fine. He will need to be the only dog in the home. The second challenge is that Bruno is not fully potty trained. He was not neutered when he arrived with us and this led to quite a bit of marking. He is now fixed and this will reduce the marking significantly. However, since he has been allowed to do this for so long in his previous home, it has become a habit for him and this will need work. We recommend using a belly band in the home to prevent accidents until he can learn to reliably go potty outside. He pees in the most hilarious way - a little handstand on his front leg and lifts both back legs in the air at the same time. Quite the circus trick. Bruno is a sweetie and clearly losing his owner has been hard for him. He can be nervous at times when he feels uncertain but he gets over it pretty quickly. He was very matted when he arrived with us but did beautifully at the groomer and now looks very spiffy. We recommend Bruno for a home without children at this time. Bruno is vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at .savinggreatanimals and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
