xico. Thanks to amazing humans, I was rescued with my mama and siblings when I was still itty-bitty and eventually made my way up to Minnesota! I'm loving my new life and getting used to being a house dog. Guess what? I love my crate so much that I go in all by myself! I like to follow my sister everywhere, but when it comes to crate time I lead the way. My foster Mama thinks this is Very Good Girl behavior. I even snuggle down pretty quick with my sister and sleep most of the night with just a *bit* of whining. I'm working on my potty training and am getting better every day. I get a bit nervous sometimes which makes it hard for me to remember to wait, but I've learned that I'm safe here and that's helping me gain so much confidence! I'm still a puppy, so accidents are bound to happen, but my foster Mama is learning my cues so they're not as frequent. I'm still trying to figure out what a leash is for - but my foster Mama says I'm very smart and should be able to get the hang of it once I'm settled. I've adjusted to this new home and new schedule surprisingly well, so I should be great for someone who wants to train me to their routine. Yes, I'm a bit vocal - there's just so much to talk about! But most of the time I only bark when I'm startled or if someone is walking by out the window or on the other side of the fence. You can never be too careful about strangers! I've traveled pretty far in my small life, but I don't let that scare me from going for car rides - I've ridden quietly with no motion sickness. I love playing with my puppy sister and two human foster sisters (ages 4 and 6), though they need to watch out for my puppy claws and teeth! I love new people and would do great in a house with kids. My favorite things in the whole world are doing zoomies in the backyard, finding something chewy to teeth on, and being forced to snuggle with my doggy sister and foster humans (I'm too polite to plonk right down, but with encouragement, I'll fall asleep on your lap for hours!). Personally, I think I'm the best age to find a forever home. I'm still definitely a puppy, but am crate and (mostly) potty trained so my new family can jump right into the fun training. I'm so excited for the next adventure, and can't wait to find a home that I can call my own forever Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: $625.00

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
