Dog Breed: Husky. Hi, I&#39m Willa Rose! I&#39m a 5-month-old pup, currently weighing around 25 pounds. I&#39m a Husky and Labradoodle mix--pretty cute, right? Since I&#39m still growi

ng and my breeds are a bit of a wild card, no one&#39s exactly sure how big I&#39ll end up, but I promise to stay full of personality no matter what size I become! I&#39m an easygoing girl who goes with the flow. Car rides? No problem. I walk politely on a leash and really enjoy getting out and about. I&#39m still learning, though! I&#39m working on staying calm when there&#39s a lot going on around me--things like loud noises, fast movements, or unfamiliar people. With some consistent training and patience, I&#39m improving every day. Right now, I&#39m being treated for a bad flea and tick infestation (ugh!). Once I&#39m feeling better, I&#39ll start coming inside on a leash to explore--and that&#39s when I&#39ll get to meet the resident cats. Word is, one&#39s spicy and the other&#39s super chill, so I&#39ll get the full feline experience! We&#39ll find out soon if I&#39m cat-friendly. I love my toys, but I can be a bit possessive of them. It&#39s playful, but it&#39s still a form of resource guarding, so it&#39s something my humans are keeping an eye on. They&#39ve started marker training with me--so far, I know that &#34YES&#34 means something good is coming. I&#39m pretty proud of that! As I continue to heal and settle into this new life, I know more of my personality will shine through. I can&#39t wait to share that with you. Love, Willa Rose A Note from Willa&#39s Foster Mom: Willa Rosa is a sweet, smart, and sensitive pup who deserves a loving, structured home. Because of her mix, age, and developing behavior, we are looking for experienced dog owners who understand the importance of consistent training and ongoing enrichment. The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00 and that includes their vaccinations, spay or neuter, rabies and microchip. To start the process please visit our website and fill out the adoption application (.dfwrescueme) and from there the foster family can answer any questions and arrange a time to meet. Willa Rose is participating in the DFW Rescue Me guest dog program, so ongoing care and custody is provided by her foster, not by DFWRM.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
