A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Reason for being in rescue: Raleigh Puppy Mill bust
Foster location: Foster Home in Rocky Mount, NC
Special Needs? Maddie is spayed, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Maddie arrived in rescue with several significant medical issues that were addressed on 06/16/25. First, she had her right eye removed due to a collapsed globe. Second, she had a very old broken jaw. This was surgically repaired. Additionally, Maddie had a dental with extractions. Our sweet girl has been through a lot, has healed, and is ready for her for her forever home.

What kind of home would be best for me? Maddie says that age is just a number. This middle-aged princess has plenty of pep in her step and more than enough joy to go around. Maddie has a few specific requests (really demands) in her forever home. First, she must sleep in the bed. There is no such thing as personal space or too close with this princess. And second, Maddie really wants someone home during the day. You could work from home, take her to work with you, be retired, or home school. As long as she's with you, she's happy.
Maddie is great with other small dogs, but a canine companion isn't a requirement. She'd rather have a human "puppy"! She hasn't been tested with cats but we cannot imagine she'll have a problem with them. Maddie has lived with kids and thinks they are just more hands to love and pet her!
What is my personality like? Meet Maddie — the puppy mill survivor who's turning heads with her pawfect wink! This brave girl lost an eye, but not her sparkle. After surviving unthinkable beginnings, Maddie is now living her best life, rocking her permanent wink like a true queen. She's strong, she's sweet, and she's absolutely stunning.
Though Maddie had a tough start to life, it has not dimmed her joy one bit. She wakes up with a big smile on her face and ready to play. There's no caffeine needed with this girl - she is full of morning zoomies and play. Once morning play time is over, she's ready to settle into a Netflix and chill sort of day. The one thing Maddie is relentless about - seeking out love and affection. She's all about those pets and isn't going to let you off the hook without her sufficient daily dose of love.
Maddie's foster mom describes her as a sweet, even tempered "old soul" who wants her people to love her and treat her like the princess she deserves to be. If you wake up ready to roll, want a dog that wants you every day, and think the perpetual wink is perfect (like we do), Maddie says she'd love to give you her heart.
How do I act when I first meet new people?
Other tips and tidbits: Based on her overall health and condition, Maddie is estimated at 9 years old. We celebrate her birthday 06/04/2016.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
