Adoption Application. If you are only interested in temporarily Fostering one of our rescues, please fill out a Foster Application. Ready to read about an AMAZING DOG?! Perfect because I am her foster mom and this is what I have to say about her, The following was updated 7/14/25 Uma is an adorable baja mutt, which means we don't know her breed. We say she is pit/chi mix because of her physical looks, she has a face of a pit in a very dainty small yet sturdy body. If you are not opposed to the bully breed and are interested in a small breed. then submit an application TODAY for this girl. Uma is currently staying at casa de ARWOB where she is cared by her human Alondra and several other foster dogs and cats. Uma is wonderful with humans. We don't know if she has a history of living around or with children when she was younger but since she was found in the streets of Baja she likely had several exposures to children. When on park walks she encounters children without any issue or hesitation. She is VERY dog friendly, all ages, sizes, etc. Fantastic dog park dog. Although she is fostered with cats she is heavily monitored meaning she is not trying to attack BUT she is cat focus, cats can and do walk around her and depending on what is going on in the house she will ignore them or focus. Potential fosters or adopters with cats should have dog savvy cats who aren't intimidated and will hold their ground meaning swat if needed, Uma is NOT allowed unsupervised with cats ei if we leave the house she stays in the crate. Uma is amazing in the crate, potty and crate trained. We have not done any training with Uma but can we say she is one intelligent little girl. She knows what you want or don't want and does not want to be in trouble, ever. If you are looking for an agility or fetching dog this is THE one. Her tiny muscular legs allow her to jump high, although sometimes you need to lift her up on the truck ha ha. She is one of the best fetchers out there. Her foster can tell you so much more about Uma and her healthy obsession with the balls. Not a barker and has not shown signs of separation anxiety or leash reactivity but we also make it a point to not allow her to develop them. We decreased her adoption fee to $150 in the hopes to find an amazing adopter it would be great if her adopter believes in signing up in basic dog training. Interested in this loving beauty? Please submit an application online at ARWOB If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
