dash; my sibling and I were rescued from animal control — but things are looking up, and we’re feeling so grateful for this second chance. Now that we’re safe, loved, and learning what it means to be part of a family, we’re both ready to find forever homes of our very own! I’m in a great foster home learning a lot of new things, including getting used to human touch and affection! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I love my sibling and the other dogs in my foster home. I was a little shy when I first met them, but I warmed up quickly once I felt comfortable — and then I was ready to play and make friends! The 4 dogs in my foster home have been great teachers — I’ve been learning a lot from them and really enjoying their company! So, I’d love another friendly dog in my new home to continue learning from, so let’s meet. / I live with four cats in my foster home, and while I was definitely curious about them at first, I mostly just give them a sniff now and move on. I haven’t chased or bothered them and haven’t shown any negative behavior around them — just a bit of polite interest. / I haven’t met kids in my foster home or at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: My foster reports that I’m a goofy, playful guy with tons of energy and a big love for toys — chewing them, tossing them, and playing with other dogs is my kind of fun! I am a little timid around people right now, especially when it comes to putting on a leash, but I’m learning and just need some TLC and patience to help me build confidence. When I try new foods, I do this silly little chattering thing with my mouth — it’s kind of my signature move, and my foster family says it’s the cutest thing ever. I’m definitely a go-go-go kind of pup and sometimes forget to slow down, but once I’ve had enough fun, I happily settle into my pen for a good rest. I’m currently not big cuddler, but perhaps that will change. / Energy level: I have lots of puppy energy at 6-8, so I’ll want to be active with my new family. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: In my foster home, we do a little training each day. I’ve mastered the ‘sit’ command and am working on ‘stay’, ‘come’, ‘down’, ‘kennel’ and ‘door’ manners. I’m looking for a family that will continue my training and will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog – including starting to train me not to chew on you and the kids so we’ll all be happy - so get ready for some training with your new best friend. When I arrived, I was afraid of crossing thresholds, but I’ve come a long way in that area! / I’m doing well in the crate in my foster home at nighttime with minimal whining when put in there for bed. I let them know in the morning when it's time to go potty by vocalizing. / I had quite a few accidents at the Mostly Mutts shelter, but am doing better in my foster home on a good schedule. They say I’m getting closer, so I’ll want my new family to finish potty training me with positive reinforcement. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I’m very food-driven — I go crazy for peanut butter, treats and apples — and I absolutely love playing with toys and other dogs! Chew toys are the best and playing ball is fun, too! / I don’t want to be rushed into new situations or relationships as lots of things are new to me, and I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and neutered. If you’re ready for the fun and excitement of having a puppy as well as the training commitment, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
