from animal control with my sibling after living in a home with way too many dogs, and I didn’t get much attention and was pretty under-socialized when I arrived. So, I’m catching up on that now with all the nice volunteers at Mostly Mutts. I’m learning what it means to feel safe and loved, and I’m so excited for this fresh start! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I love my sibling and the other dogs I met at Mostly Mutts, and I believe I would benefit from and enjoy another dog to play with and learn from in my new home. So, if you have a nice doggie that would like a puppy friend, let’s meet! / I haven’t met kitties yet. / I met kids around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and was very shy with them, though I didn’t show any aggression, so if you have calm kids around that age, let’s meet and no toddlers that will likely scare me. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet and cautious boy with a bit of a regal vibe — I carry myself with grace and good posture, and I like to take in the world calmly and carefully. I’m a smart guy, always observing and learning, but I do appreciate when people go slowly with me. My first bath made me a little anxious, especially the feel of the sprayer, but I settled in nicely and even gave my bather a few thank-you kisses by the end. With a little TLC, I know I’ll keep growing more confident every day, and I can’t wait to share my sweet, gentle nature with someone who’s ready to love me. I am a flight risk since everything is still new to me, so please make sure I’m secure on my leash. / Energy level: My current energy level is 3-5, but I know it will increase as I get more comfortable in my new home. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program and look forward to learning a lot with my trainer! Check back soon to see what I've learned. I’m looking for a family that will teach me everything I need to know to grow up and become a wonderful adult dog so get ready for some training with your new best friend. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / I’m at the very beginning of my potty training so I’ve been having accidents on the shelter schedule, and I’ll need my family to potty train me. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love food and getting petted by the nice volunteers. I also love spending time with my sibling and would benefit from another friendly dog in my new home. I’m sure we’ll discover lots of other things we’ll love doing together as I settle in my new home. / I wouldn’t like being rushed into new situations or around new people too quickly — I need time to feel safe — and I wouldn’t be happy without plenty of love, attention, exercise and training to help me thrive. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and neutered. If you’re ready for the training commitment, and fun of raising a puppy, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
