Our listed dogs ARE READY IMMEDIATELY; we only meet with families WHO ARE READY TO ADOPT! IF YOU APPLY and if WE APPROVE YOU it means we are assuming when you meet any of our dogs and fall in love you're ready to ADOPT AND HIM OR HER HOME! Knox’s Story as told by the couple that found him and has been fostering him. “We rescued Knox on a highway in Idalou, Texas, about to be runover by oncoming traffic. He came to us right away and has been the most loving, sweetest boy since we rescued him last month. Once we accepted nobody was searching for him, we highly considered adopting him into our home, but we have accepted there is no way for us to take on two dogs at the moment, as we are balancing careers, traveling and school. Knox has a fantastic flexible, energy level 2-8 /10 - If we’re just lounging around the house, he is very content lounging around with us and cuddling and giving kisses. But if there is any type of ball around or he hears a basketball bouncing nearby, he can turn up to an 8! Knox LOVES balls of any kind! tennis balls, basketballs, soccer balls, anything round that he can chase and run after and bring back to you. He loves company, and saying hi to other dogs while on walks. He LOVES to play fetch and soccer! He will bring the ball right back every time. More balls and fetch till he drops, but he wont chase frisbees. He will play fetch with stuffed animals in the house, and will chew on a hard bone when hes bored. Knox wags his tail so fast whenever we make eye contact with him. His nickname is Airbud! He can chase down a ball from one end of the tennis court before it gets to the other end of the court (hes so fast). He will also bring it back to you EVERY time. Drops it right at your feet. He can perform over the shoulder catches. Knox is a huge lover and only wants to please you. He loves to lie down under things in the house: Chairs, tables, your legs….He is very agile and can climb on top of things. But won’t after you correct him. Knox had very mild separation anxiety in the beginningwhen we would leave the house and kenneled him. He has gotten a lot better now that he knows we will come home every time. Best fit for a young adult or couple or family with Aussie-savvy kids who are active, like to play outside, or play soccer with him. He would also make a great tennis partner. Knox needs people who have time and energy to keep him active. He would love an active owner. He loves getting out and moving and running and meeting new people and seeing new things. Knox is crate-trained / housebroken a few hours at a time with no accidents. We’re always looking for homes where someone is home part of the day or there’s another dog to play with; Knox is also just fine with other dogs. I'm sure he would do well at daycare. We introduced him to 4 other dogs at once within the first week we had him and he did great considering we did not know his past. Knox knows how to sit, learning to lay down, learning to "wait/stay", getting better at not being afraid of the kennel. He is eager to learn and please you. We know he’s going to be a perfect dog for somebody! If you’re interested in applying for Knox, please complete our application for adoption on the website below THEN TEXT SARA: 214-549-9905 So she can check your application and get back to you! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
