le for Meet & Greets Ella is an 8-month-old Germanese—a gorgeous mix of German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees—who’s been with her family since she was just 8 weeks old. She came from an accidental litter and has grown up in a loving home, but with five young kids and a very busy household, it’s become clear that Ella needs more than they can give. This sweet girl is friendly, smart, and affectionate. She has great recall, walks beautifully on a leash, and adores both people and other dogs. She’s past the nippy puppy phase, enjoys hanging out with the kids outside, and loves to camp and explore with her family. But like many pups, Ella is still learning. After her spay surgery, she had a few accidents and has since been kept outside more often. Being under-socialized and craving attention, she’s gotten bored—digging, chewing, and barking at all the deer that wander by. She’s not trying to be bad—she just doesn’t know what else to do with her energy and instincts. She really needs structure, consistency, and someone who gets her breeds. She would thrive in a home with space to roam, a secure yard, and patient people who won’t give up on her. Barking is part of her Pyr DNA—it’s loud, and she does it often when she’s alert. A rural setting or home with tolerant neighbors would be ideal. Ella’s family has tried everything they can. They love her, but the stress of managing her needs alongside a busy household is taking a toll—and they want better for her. What Ella Needs: A foster or adopter in or near Billings, MT A home where she’s included, not isolated Breed-savvy owners or someone willing to learn A securely fenced yard or rural setting Time, patience, and love Ella is spayed, fully vaccinated, and ready for her next chapter. We’d love to avoid placing her in a kennel, so if you’re nearby and able to foster—even short-term—it would make a huge difference. Apply online Meet & greets available in Billings She’s not broken. She just needs someone who believes in her. Let's find Ella the fresh start she deserves.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
