Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto - PetSmart 4th Saturday, Roseville - Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. This is an updated biography on our handsome red and black long coat male, Oscar. He Is estimated to be 3 years of age with irresistible features of an undiscovered show dog. He arrived in our program quite insecure, suffering from severe separation anxiety. The company of other canines initially helped offer reassuance, but when was paired with a particular foster female, Joiya, his anxieties seemed to disappear completely. It is apparent the two share a unique bond. Together, they helped each other thrive and learn to relax in the home without their human. While we hoped that the two could spend their futures side by side, their time together has allowed Oscar to develop the confidence and maturity to enjoy a comfortable life with another canine partner who can offer him the support to continue his amazing progress. This boy is very eager to meet all dogs with uninhibited social curiosity. He can be a bit intrusive with his greeting style, so supervision will be helpful to remind him to pay attention to his manners. He will try his best to initiate play with almost every dog he meets. His play style can be rather robust, and he can escalate with excitement rather quickly. Again, with close supervision and guidance, he will quickly adjust and be mindful of his boundaries. When he is not engaging in play, Oscar prefers to rest quietly indoors near his human. On hot summer days, he will make frequent rest stops in the pool to cool off his paws, then return indoors to lounge. Oscar enjoys car rides and daily walks where he has learned to ignore most distractions along the way. He has a strong attraction to cats and squirrels with an instinct to chase, so he would do best in a home without felines. He also has a powerhouse nose that loves to seek any new scent on his path. This guy is housebroken and accustomed to the use of a dog door. Oscar has progressed to become a household delight and appears ready to join a family who will offer him the structure, company, and all the belly rubs he deserves. No cats. Small critters unknown. Puppy Requirements We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy (.gcgsr/puppies.html) email us at infogcgsr for more information. Thank you for visiting!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
